ABOUT US
Our farming journey began about 8 years ago when we, first-generation farmers Joe and Em started out with 'just two goats'!
Inspired by our love for animals and a passion for quality and high-welfare produce we now have a flock of Herdwicks, a herd of Mangalitzas and a few more goats.
We first met in 2013 and discovered a shared joy for finding and cooking great food. I (Em) was busy with my horses while Joe was rearing rare breed poultry and waterfowl. I was passionate about sustainability—if I wanted to eat meat, I wanted to know where it came from and how the animal had lived. We both believed in eating seasonally and locally, and Joe’s dedication to the true “farm-to-fork” approach only strengthened our vision.
With some spare woodland, we bought three Mangalitza weaners to rear for ourselves, and soon after, a few lambs. We teamed up with a local supplier of free-range chickens and a friend who butchered organic highland cows—our freezer was quickly sorted! As family and friends tasted our Herdwick lamb/hogget and Mangalitza pork, they asked if they could buy some, and we thought, why not share our produce with everyone?
Our Herdwick meat boasts a deep, rich lamb flavour thanks to rearing our stock a little longer, while our Mangalitza pigs, raised for a minimum of 18 months, offer a unique pork experience—exactly how pork should taste, with a beautiful marbling of fat and rich colour.
After selling directly from the farm gate for a few years, we took a huge leap in 2024 by opening our very own farm shop. Now, our shop is stocked with all the meat we rear on our farm, along with beef supplied by our neighbour just across the road—marking the start of an exciting new chapter,
We’re also proud to deliver the highest quality, welfare-friendly produce right to your doorstep. Plus, as active members of the Mangalitza Conservation Society in the UK, we’re committed to keeping rare bloodlines safe. Our love for livestock shows has even led to accolades like the Best Herdwick Female at GYS 2023. We also offer livestock from our farm, including Valais Blacknose, Herdwick Tups, and Mangalitza weaners.
At The Curly Meat Co., we’re renowned for our quality, variety, bespoke butchery, and above all, the personal customer service we provide from start to finish. We can’t wait to share our passion and produce with you!
